This week: ‘If you were offered more money by another company, would you leave?’
Tony Wilmot of staffbay.com explains how to handle that curveball
WHY THEY ASK THIS?
There isn’t a person in the world who wouldn’t swap jobs if someone offered them a substantial pay rise, but the interviewer wants to make sure you won’t run off after three months for an extra £500 a year. This is usually asked to people who are over qualified for the role.
HOW DO YOU ANSWER?
As diplomatically as possible! If someone offered you more money to work somewhere else you’d obviously have to consider it and you should be honest about this. However, you also need to show you’re loyal. Think about whether it’s just the salary that’s important to you. If job satisfaction, lovely colleagues and general happiness are what make you tick then say this – it shows you look at the wider picture.
(Please Note: The information is from the More Magazine article ‘Spotlight on Television Presenting’ in Issue 11th March 2013, I did not write this!)
