That sound…

As you can tell from my previous diary entries I have been simply sat at my desk typing up the data entries whilst listening to music all day BUT today I wanted a break from having music blasted in my head…
Listening to the background commotion in my office one sound struck me the most and it was the following one…

Guess what it is…

That’s right all I can hear is typing (although it’s pretty much a given as the video is called typing), typing of all speeds there are editors that type quietly, fast, some who type loudly and some that are a mixture of the above. All I can say is that being the one pushing the keyboard to write a sentence is my dream. Some have dreams of being rich or being the first person to break a record, some of you may laugh and think that my dream is stupid but everyone has a different one and mine is literally to write!

I actually wish I was stressed about writing not that’s it’s a nice feeling but to be able to be stressing over your dream has to be  such an achievement!

I can’t wait till I’m Rosa Aversa – Editor

A harsh reality…

In my Media Business lecture on Monday instead of receiving an academic lecture we had a graduate student who graduated from our degree last academic year to tell us about her experience as a graduate so far. She described a harsh reality of the work industry and said if she were to have had work experience before going into a job, her expectation of the media industry would have been a more realistic one as opposed to a made up Hollywood one. The experience she had before that was watching TV and absorbing the media around her.

Before my placement I used to think exactly the same as her, I’m too much of a day dreamer when it comes to the real world because I get too sucked into the happily ever after that Hollywood creates giving me and others a dream to aspire too. I used to see being a writer the best job in the world someone who meets celebrities and gets to write about them, I used to see it as glam as the film ‘How to lose a guy in 10 days.’

Then I found my placement & my perspectives changed, I hated having to be the girl who stacked away the magazines, I couldn’t wait until I got to the stage of experiencing what it was like to be at the end of the tunnel with all the other writers. The other thing I found the worst was to get used to was my expectation was wrong I had to get used to the fact that the aspects that I felt made this job the best thing in the world were wrong and I had to change them with the right ones.

Don’t get me wrong I still see it as the best job in the world I got used to the reality of it instead of the made up Hollywood one. I started at the bottom and kept at it, I’m determined to get as far as I possibly can! Its just that my expectation was crossed by a reality of the complete opposite…

The fact IS I thought of it in terms of the consumer, being the writer is the GLAMOROUS bit because you are the one with that raw talent it’s all up in your head. It’s not in a way that most people would expect, the glamorous side to writing comes from creating the imagination and colour within an article that’s where my expectation is.

I think of it this way, you are selling someone the imagination in your head through a magazine! I could write about any subject, I’ll give you an example, let’s imagine I’m an editor and I wrote an article that the best city to go to is Paris and because I wrote it in a creative way it would encourage the reader/consumer to go for it. In terms of the article it would then be a success because I achieved its main aim, I sold my imagination of a different lifestyle to a consumer.

I’m an aspiring writer, so I would think, ‘I wish I was the person who wrote this article.’ Forgetting that ultimately the writer is sat in an office with a blank Microsoft Word document open with no words written on and it is his job to complete the article.

The girl said nothing new to me as I’m already achieving everything she said and I am still to graduate, she did mention that she wished she wrote a blog and I am so glad to have mine.

Busy Schedule…

My life is currently crazy, I’ve been using sticky notes everywhere to help me keep on top of things you should see the state of my desk they are EVERYWHERE full of things that I need to get done… ahhhh,  I actually woke up with one in my hair:/

I’ve been busy editing the bloggers leaflet for my society and emailing it to the members that are currently interested to pass on the message. I’ve also been emailing back and forth the guy in charge of the university newspaper to be able to join, just in case my society doesn’t work out.

Even though today it’s Sunday it’s been no exception! I’ve still been super busy, I spent 4 hours doing my readings for tomorrows lecture’s and I was still no where near finished as I still had to do two essay plans and research for a group presentation. My life is just all over the place that if my friends want to make plans I might say, ‘Please ring me back in a year I might be able to hang out then.’ I never really believed third years when I’ve spoke to them before that they hadn’t gone out for months at a time but its because it’s true, you just don’t have the time…

At least I achieved something today I’m up to date with all my university readings:)

Then there’s my biggest passion that I need to keep on top of too and that’s updating you guys as much as I can and still trying to find the time to write for Yuppee. I really need to take an hour tomorrow and focus purely on this as I haven’t maintained my commitment at all:(

Why aren’t there enough hours in the day?! I’m truly struggling!! I suppose this is my welcome to the adult world :/

The only thing that’s keeping me going at the moment is my little black diary, I don’t know what I would do without being organised, having sticky notes in my life and some sort of plan:)

See you soon

OK Bye.

Hey Guys,

I don’t think I have mentioned this much BUT this year at university I’m determined to do as many extra things as possible. Now that all More Magazine tips have been blogged, it’s time for me to focus my energy on my blogger society which I have managed to create. I can now include on my CV President of the Blogger Society Eeeekkkk!!! It’s going to be tough it hasn’t even started and I have so much prep to do for it before our first meeting.

I was lucky enough to be able to have my own stall at my university Fresher’s Fair where I managed to recruit a further 6 people interested in joining.

Blogger Stall

Although I need a minimum of 5 people to join & have 9 people including myself interested in my society I’m not going to stop there! The main campus doesn’t have a lot of the creative students enrolled at the campus whereas my campus does! Also a lot of the students that study at my campus don’t travel to the main campus as it’s a 45 minute drive. So on Monday morning I’m going to go into the library, open up PhotoShop/InDesign &  KeyNote and start creating blogger leaflets so that I can post them around campus and try to get more people interested, as well as in my free breaks walk around campus asking people if they would be interested in joining my society. I also need to write up my proposal and the intention of what I want my society to achieve as well as emailing the people interested all of the above details.

I will also be updating you with how my society is going so do check out ‘My Blogger Society’ category to see what we have achieved and what we are up to. I’m also really excited for my first lecture on Monday as well as I’m happy to announce that I took a media business module so watch out for an upcoming category regarding my university work. I think what I learn will be worth discussing with you guys!

It’s time for me to get back to work because I did, I tried & I succeeded!!

My Achievements in the last few months…

So now that I have finally finished typing up the More Magazine work tips, I would like to say how they really opened my eyes to all the experiences and opportunities running past me and I’m sat in my room right now typing and telling you what I’m missing out on. On Saturday I’m going to spend all day researching and seeing what else I can do to boost me up the social ladder and work hierarchy. Again I would like to remind you that I did not write the More tips myself and at the bottom of every post I have written what issue and article they were from.

I am so proud of myself with how my summer has gone I worked so hard throughout it, I put in so much energy into blogging, starting to think deeply about what to do my dissertation on and working flat out at my placement and writing up my diary entries. I feel I have grown so much in the last 3 months this summer really did change my perspectives. I’ve got so much positive energy around me that nothing is going to bring me down, I am more than determined to bag myself my dream job as soon as I have graduated to then keep working hard until I have reached the top of my future career!

Now that all tips have been uploaded and I’ve got rid of all my drafts, I’ve got a plan!
I’ve got a plan to finish….
-My other blogs before uni takes over my life on Monday
-Research going abroad to work for a year
-Start my dissertation
-Find a placement where I am now living at university for my module Media Business

It’s all full speed ahead!!!
