Wednesday 4th December

Last night I went to a social event with some of the people from my placement as the editor who introduced me to WordPress was running a pub quiz for bloggers in our area.  This morning I managed to get in an hour early which means OVERTIME yay:) I spent all morning typing up the competition entries and to spur me on a bit I’m allowed to listen to music, it helps me work faster too! I spent all day listening to Christmas music which really got me in a festive mood 🙂

Today I had a super healthy lunch although it has nothing to do with my placement I just had to upload it was so yummy, food really does make me happy…

The PA also asked me if I didn’t mind doing some packaging for an hour as she needed some client gifts wrapped, it was nice to have a slight break too. Today was literally one of the best days I’ve had at my work placement as at university I’m taking a module called, ‘Professional Practice & Creative Industries.’ For this module we have to find our own projects to within a media industry if we fail to do so as a consequence we will fail the module and this could impact upon my final grade.  A 10 day work placement is seen as a major project which means once I have done that my deadline will be complete and I don’t have to worry about it until I have to hand in my project. I’m extremely lucky to already have a placement so I asked them if it was possible to do something more industry based and they said YES!! I’m not entirely sure what this project entails but its a start and a brilliant opportunity for me which could help me prove myself, that I’m capable and I’m made to work in this industry. It will also aid me in working my way up within this company.

As soon as I’ve clicked publish I need to check my timetable and see when I’m free to come in, email the editor as well as CCing the PA as she overlooks what I do within the company.  I’m so grateful to have this opportunity as I was really starting to stress out as I wasn’t sure what I was going to do if I wasn’t able to have a project to do within the company. I really do love my placement, it’s such a good place to be at it’s the second best thing I have in my life after that feeling of  saying ‘Ahhh Home Sweet Home’ I simply cannot express enough how thankful and how grateful I will always be for the opportunities that they have given me.

And with that I’m up to 2100 competition entries yay 🙂

Time to go home see you tomorrow…

More Magazine Awkward Interview Question Issue 11th March 2013

This week: ‘If you were offered more  money by another company, would you leave?’

Tony Wilmot of explains how to handle that curveball

There isn’t a person in the world who wouldn’t swap jobs if someone offered them a substantial pay rise, but the interviewer wants to make sure you won’t run off after three months for an extra £500 a year. This is usually asked to people who are over qualified for the role.

As diplomatically as possible! If someone offered you more money to work somewhere else you’d obviously have to consider it and you should be honest about this. However, you also need to show you’re loyal. Think about whether it’s just the salary that’s important to you. If job satisfaction, lovely colleagues and general happiness are what make you tick then say this – it shows you look at the wider picture.

(Please Note: The information is from the More Magazine article ‘Spotlight on Television Presenting’ in Issue 11th March 2013, I did not write this!)

Expand your contacts…

I cannot express how important it is to try and follow in my footsteps such as gaining work experience and following all the tips that I advise you to do! Many people I have spoken too seem to be impressed or amazed that I have managed to do all of this…. Maybe I sound a bit cocky or in your opinion I am doing it wrong and you can do it better or maybe I could do more!

because of work experience I have become quite good friends with the receptionist who has a passion for making films and said to me that I too should pursue what I like because no one is going to hand it to you! So she makes films & I write no tells me to, I just do it! I got into blogging as an editor I work with introduced me to WordPress. I now attend blogger events in my city, where I have the chance to meet new people, interact and network with others who also blog & write. At the first blogger event that I went too, I met the PR team of my city’s shopping centre who have said to me the opportunity is there if you want to get some work experience with us! I would be a fool not to take it!! This could lead to more opportunities my only advice to you is once you’ve got your foot in the door hold onto what you can and from there you will only blossom…

I will be eternally grateful to the PA of my placement for not throwing my letter asking to come in for work experience away and instead giving me that chance. If they would have said no I would not be here today writing to an audience who I know is out there reading my words!
